The battle of being in love / My inner child
The Movements, somehow, sent me a 45 through the post. I get pretty excited when a band sends me a 45. I can't remember how they got my address or what... but on my doormat it landed, demandin' to be played.
And boy am I glad I stuck it on the turntable.
Basically, what 'The Battle Of Being In Love/My Inner Child' is, is two sides of Grade A, skuzzed out, psychedelic punk. Recorded DIY to analogue, these meatheads have vurped up a stonking great slab of primal rock 'n' roll, all tuff guitars and organs!
Both sides of the 45 are as good as each other, with 'Battle' just edging it on points for sheer bloody nerve. They produced the rekkid themselves and, judging from the results, they shouldn't bother hiring anyone ever again. This is a killer 45!
The band will be in the UK on 25th May. They'll be playing at The Cavern Club, Liverpool.

The first of a series of limited edition, analogue-recorded 45s from the band's own studio to promote forthcoming tours by the ace Gothernberg garage-psych kings. It's magic stuff. Run, don't run, to your keyboard and order a copy here because they will become scarce. The A is a breakneck collision of agitated keyboards and spiraling guitar, a vamping explosion of sound that holds up against anything similar that'll cross your path. Think the Music Machine with a gun. Scarifying guitar introduces the flipside before a quirky keyboard line kicks in and a strong chorus hits its stride. This is too good to only be heard by a few European '60s punk fans and festival folk. Can't wait to hear the album, due in late February '08. These songs won't be on it but it threatens to be a monster, regardless.

David Henriksson has a feel of Robert Burås and in many ways this band has a little of the same psych-lite feel like My Midnight Creeps and The Soundtrack of Our Lives, which means that it's melodic and kind of easy listening psychedelic garagerock - and this is for sure a compliment! With The Movements you get lots of organ and tambourine, catchy choruses and fuzzy guitars. This single comes with two hard edged tunes. A-side "The Battle of Being in Love" is a hard driven up-beat ear attack leaving no room for mellowness. Gustaf Gimstedt almost rips his organ apart and Christian Johansson delivers a spaced-out twin guitar solo with a cool echo effect. On the B-side "My Inner Child" starts out with a screaming dissonant guitar and leads into a more hardrocking garagetune, but still with cool harmonies and the organ ads a nice softness to the song. This is a cool buy if you like to hear the more raw side of The Movements.
